Halotron is a proven clean fire extinguishing agent applicable on a wide range of fires. Since it is a clean agent, it does not leave a residue after application, and therefore minimal or no collateral damage occurs from the agent itself to equipment in the area. This is unlike traditional dry chemical agents, which can be corrosive when employed.
Halotron was approved for commerical/industrial and military use as a substitute for Halon 1211 in streaming (portable extinguisher) applications by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in its Signification New Alternative Policy (SNAP) program in early 1994.
The SNAP program evaluates candidate chemical replacements for CFCs and Halons, based on environmental and health effect characteristics. |
